Reopening of high streets
Reopening of high streets safely
This funding has been used to develop a communications campaign to promote the reopening of the high street, to advertise the measures in place, and to promote adherence to current Covid-19 guidance. This advertising will feature in local papers, local radio, and through social media routes.
All our car parks have been also provided with additional signage on contactless payment options such as through the RingGo app.
The council’s Environmental Health service has contacted businesses with advice how to reopen safely. Further information is available on our Coronavirus advice for businesses page.
To support the safe reopening, during the first week of each reopening phase Environmental Health staff will be in the Ashford and Tenterden High Street to tackle any issues, provide advice, and promote the safe reopening of our shops and businesses.
In additional the council will aim to support food and drink businesses in adapting to social distancing measures such as the provision of outside tables and chairs.
Working with Tenterden Town Council, A-boards outside shops have been removed to assist with social distancing. On street parking bays have been suspended so there is more space for pedestrians.
Additional cleaning is taking place in the High Street, and the public toilets in Recreation Ground Road and Station Road. There is also a hand sanitiser station outside Tenterden Town Hall during trading hours for shoppers to use.
Park Mall and County Square are operating a one-way system to aid with social distancing. Some street furniture will be removed in Park Mall to create more space.
Additional cleaning is taking place in the High Street and the public toilets in New Rents. During trading hours a hand sanitiser station is available for public user at the entrance to Park Mall.
Ashford Borough has been given access to an allocated fund of up to £116,814 to put in place measures to establish a safe trading environment for businesses and customers in our High Streets. The council has received funding from the EU Regional Development Fund to pay for a range of measures to reopen high streets safely.
