What equipment does Ashford Lifeline provide?
Ashford Lifeline will provide you with an alarm unit and one pendant. Both of these products are rented and remain the property of Ashford Borough Council.
The alarm unit is conveniently placed in your home for your use. The pendant can be worn either around the neck or on the wrist. Additional pendants can be purchased.
We are also able to provide more specialized sensors and tailor a package to suit your needs. Details of other sensors or equipment we can provide are detailed below.
The alarm unit
The alarm unit is connected to both the power and main telephone socket in your property. The alarm unit will raise a call to our dedicated 24-hour Monitoring Centre when activated by pressing the button on either the alarm unit or pendant. The alarm can also be activated by sensors such as a fall detector or smoke detector within a range of 100ft/30m from the alarm unit.
The pendant can be worn on a cord around the neck or on the wrist using a wrist strap making it similar to wearing a watch. When the button is pressed the pendant sends a signal to the alarm unit. This will activate a call to the Monitoring Centre where it will be answered by one of our trained call handlers who will take the necessary action.
The pendant is shower proof and can therefore be worn in the shower. However, it is not waterproof, so cannot be immersed in water for any period of time.
Tailoring your package
Ashford Lifeline can also offer other sensors or equipment to tailor the package to your personal needs. Each of these additional items are purchased (not hired) with a one off payment and remain your property. Details of these additional items are listed below.
The key safe is a strong mechanical metal box providing a secure method of externally storing up to six keys per property. It is installed into brick or concrete and keys are accessed by a combination code. The code is easy to set and can be changed when appropriate to maintain security.
The smoke detector sends a signal to the alarm unit when it detects smoke. This will activate a call to the Monitoring Centre, alerting the call handler of a potential fire.
A fall detector is a sensor that is worn on the person and is designed to identify a serious fall that leads to a state of unconsciousness and immobility.
If such a fall is detected, the detector vibrates to alert the user that it is about to send an alarm signal to the alarm unit which will then call the Monitoring Centre. In order to reduce the number of false calls, should the user start to move again within a pre-set time limit after the fall, a call to the Monitoring Centre will not be raised.
The detector then provides a further period (indicated by vibration) during which the user can proactively cancel the call by moving their arm/detector. Other features of this sensor include an alarm button (similar to the pendant so no need to wear a pendant too) wrist strap and water resistance casing.
A safe socket is a device that ensures alarm calls are able to be activated even when other devices are connected to the telephone line and in use at the same time.
The alarm unit is connected directly to the telephone wall socket and all other devices using the same line (e.g. additional telephones, fax machines, computer modems, etc.).
It must be connected to the telephone line via the safe socket. Multiple safe sockets may be required if there is more than one device using the telephone line.
When an alarm is raised from the alarm unit, it detects the telephone line is in use and signals to the safe sockets to automatically disconnect all other connected devices for a temporary period. This frees the telephone line for the alarm unit to redial and activate the alarm through to our Monitoring Centre.
