The Ashford Allotment Society holds regular meetings to discuss allotment matters, with each site having a representative who speaks on their behalf. Allotment tenants are welcome to attend these meetings to listen and observe, although they are not able to participate in the meeting.

As part of our approach to healthy living we have a number of allotment sites, with over 400 plots throughout Ashford, that residents find very popular. Plots are measured in perches which is an old measurement; one perch is the equivalent of 25 m². An average plot is approximately 125 m² (around 5 perch) and currently cost in the region of 24p per sq m (£6 per perch or £30 per year per 5 perch plot). The exact cost of a plot is determined by its size. We offer a concessionary rate of 50% off for the first 5 perch and full price thereafter to residents claiming certain types of benefit and for those residents in receipt of state pension. If you become entitled to state pension between invoicing dates the onus is on you to inform us before 1 September before the invoices are prepared for the coming year. Failure to do this will result in you having to pay full price until the next invoice is due. All our allotment sites have water points and water is turned off from October until end of March weather dependant.

Allotment rent is now payable in advance and will be invoiced every September. When you take over an allotment you will be required to pay a key deposit of £25 (which is refunded at the end of a tenancy provided that the key is returned and the plot is left in a reasonable state). Any additional keys will be charged at £10 each which is also refundable at the end of your tenancy. You will also be required to pay for rent in advance up to the following September when you will then be invoiced for future rent. If you terminate your tenancy before the end of that financial year there will be no refund of rent paid.

If you would be interested in taking on a plot please complete the request an allotment form below. You must be registered to be considered for an allotment. Before registering please be aware that having an allotment requires time and commitment to keep it in a good well maintained condition.

If you are already on the waiting list and would like to be considered for a plot please call Geraldine Gorringe, the allotment officer, on 01233 330518 to see where you are on the list and what is available.

Please note, we require anyone who has expressed an interest in an allotment to keep us updated if their contact details or circumstances change. If either have changed, email allotments@ashford.gov.uk to notify us. If we are unable to contact you we will remove your name from the waiting list and you will have to reapply. We also require you to contact us on a yearly basis to confirm that you are still interested.
