Supporting rough sleepers
This winter, we want to ensure we have effective provisions available for those found sleeping rough on our streets. The Council’s Single Homeless/Rough Sleepers team are working with Ashford Churches Together to provide clothing, ‘street kindness kits’ that include a toiletries, cutlery and other useful items.
Food parcels will be available from Bright City Church plus information on other food banks in Ashford. We are looking into a more regular provision of hot food and a warm space, particularly in the evening, whenever possible.
Since the pandemic, the Council took the decision to continue to temporarily house all those verified as rough sleeping and support them to find suitable move-on accommodation. This will ensure that we keep vulnerable, rough sleeper numbers to an absolute minimum this year.
