Time to start getting creative with the Queen’s Jubilee ‘Ashford Tree Trail’

Residents, schools, community groups and local businesses are being invited to get creative and use the new ‘Ashford Tree Trail Activity Pack’ that is now available to grow a trail of decorated trees.

While Animate Arts will be working with a number of schools and community groups to create decorations for the in person tree trail around the town centre, it’s hoped that even more people will join in and use the activity pack to create their own decorations to be hung on real or artificial trees that will then be featured on a virtual map!

The free activity pack, which can be downloaded or viewed from The Ashford Tree Trail webpage, has been created by professional artists from Animate Arts and is full of inspirational starting points about the Queen, ideas of how to decorate a tree and has some step-by-step tree decorating activities.

There are two central themes to the decorations in the creative pack – The Queen’s Jubilee and Green Planet. We are championing for decorations and artworks that decorate each tree to be made from recycled and repurposed materials. From tin-can baubles to bunting from unwanted fabrics.

Whether you follow these activities or create your own, when you have decorated your tree, you can enter your artwork to feature on the official, virtual Tree Trail Map. The aim is to have as many independently creative trees as possible, and to have at least 70 in total to appropriately mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 70-year reign.

You can submit and upload photos of your decorated tree to the Ashford Tree Trail Virtual Map by our submission form here. Both the in person trail around the town centre and the virtual Ashford Tree Trail map will be available to view from 2 June – 25 June 2022.

And finally - don’t forget there will be free parking in all Ashford Borough Council car parks across the Platinum Jubilee weekend 2 June – 5 June 2022, so make the most of it and head into the town centre to follow the tree trail.

Cllr. Matthew Forest, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Tourism and Leisure said “We are extremely pleased the Ashford Tree Trail Activity Pack is now available and massive thank you to the artists from Animate Arts Ltd. for creating.

“We hope feel inspired to decorate your own tree - as it would be fantastic to see a map full of trees from across our borough as part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations.”
