Have your say on 4 May; key dates loom for Ashford borough and parish elections

The deadline is looming for people to register to vote in borough and parish elections being held in Ashford on Thursday 4 May.

To be able to vote you must be registered; if you are not already registered then you must register to vote no later than Monday 17 April.

To register visit GOV.UK today. It is a quick and simple process. Other key deadlines coming up include:

5pm Tuesday 18 April – the deadline for receipt of postal vote applications
5pm Tuesday 25 April – the deadline for receipt of proxy vote applications

Application forms for postal votes and proxy votes can be downloaded from Your Vote Matters.

Polling cards will be posted to every eligible registered elector four weeks before polling day.

You will need photo ID to vote in polling stations at local elections on 4 May

For the first time, people across the country will need to show photo ID to vote in polling stations at May’s local elections. So residents in the borough of Ashford are being urged to make sure they are ready to vote in May by checking they have an accepted form of ID.

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID can apply for free ID online, called a Voter Authority Certificate or by completing a paper form. The last date to apply for A Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm Tuesday 25 April.
