The festive period brings so much joy and happiness around the world but unfortunately due to various challenges and difficulties, many individuals and families are struggling even for their basic needs.

Ashford’s Sagarmatha Gurkha Nepalese Community (SGNCAK) has been supporting the town’s FareShare family food bank by collecting food and cash donations every Christmas for a number of years.

This year the warm-hearted Community, with the help of their members, managed to raise £1,322 to support the food bank.

A cheque was presented to the food bank’s Manager Tony Barnard on 21 December in the presence of the Community's Chairperson, Ladies Chairperson, Advisors and other executive members.

Chiran Rai, Vice-Chairperson who co-ordinated the fundraising, said: “Our community’s aim is to help and support people in need in the wider Ashford community during the festive season. We hope our members’ contribution will make some families happy this year. I would like to thank everyone who contributed toward the fundraising and the volunteers at the food bank for their hard work, they are an inspiration to us all.”

The Sagarmatha Gurkha Nepalese Community participates in various charitable events throughout the year. The group is keen to acquire their own hall, a much-needed venue where they can host more charitable events to help all the residents of Ashford.
