Ashford Borough Council launches Ashford, Get Active!

Now we’re in the school summer holidays, Ashford Borough Council has launched Ashford, Get Active! – a summer scheme designed to get both children and adults up and about, trying new things and forming long-standing, healthy habits.

We have arranged a variety of free activities for residents to get involved with, including skateboarding, scootering, Nordic walk sessions, family walk sessions and much more.

All of these activities are free for Ashford Borough residents to sign up for, expect from Year 6s Bikeability at Victoria Park, which is being ran in conjunction with Kent County Council and comes with a £5 surcharge.

All you have to do is head to the new webpage to book your spot, which is first come, first served.

The website also shares information on what free cycle maintenance workshops are available, as well as highlighting some of the best and scenic cycling and walking routes in the Ashford Borough.

In addition, it also has information of all Freedom Leisure’s summer activities, which includes events at The Stour Centre and Tenterden Leisure Centre.

The website will be updated periodically with new additions, so be sure to keep checking it to see what other activities you can throw yourself into!

“The launch of Ashford, Get Active! is brilliant for a number of reasons,” Cllr Guy Pullen, Cabinet Member for Parks and Recreation said. “It gives children and adults the chance to learn new skills for free, to explore some of the more picturesque parts of our Borough – either by bike or by foot – and to make the most of free cycle repair shops.

“It’s also a handy tool for parents to keep track of the events at our award-winning leisure centres, which are managed by Freedom Leisure.

“As we move into the school holidays, I’m looking forward to seeing residents make the most of the free recreational activities on offer, pick up some new hobbies and appreciate the beauty of our borough.”
