The Gambling Act 2005 covers the regulation of gambling as well as all commercial gambling in England and Wales.
Gambling Act Policy
Ashford Borough Council approved its revised ABC Gambling Policy 2022 2025 V1.0 [pdf] 1696KB on 9 December 2021. The policy comes into effect on 1 February 2022.
Ashford Borough Council is now starting the review process in order to develop and publish a Statement of Principles for Gambling for 2025-2028. For this purpose we are now consulting on the a draft statement. Open comments on the content of this draft policy [pdf] 1850KB are welcomed, and may be emailed to licensing@ashford.gov.uk or provided in writing to Licensing, Ashford Borough Council, Civic Centre, Tannery Lane, Ashford, Kent, TN23 1PL. We ask that comments are received before 31 March 2024 so that they may be considered.

Our objectives
There are three key licensing objectives behind the legislation:
- Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime
- Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
- Protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
