Gambling Act Policy

Ashford Borough Council approved its revised Statement of Principles for Gambling 2019-2022 [pdf] 1765KB on the 13 December 2018, and it came into effect on the 1 February 2019. The policy is valid for up to three years – during this period we will monitor any developments or changes in legislation and will update and consult on the policy as required.

Our objectives

There are three key licensing objectives behind the legislation:

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime
  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
  • Protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
