Gambling

The Gambling Act 2005 covers the regulation of gambling as well as all commercial gambling in England and Wales.

Gambling Act Policy

Ashford Borough Council approved its revised Statement of Principles for Gambling 2019-2022 [pdf] 2.4MB on 13 December 2018. The policy came into effect on 1 February 2019. 

We are now consulting on republishing the above document as the Statement of Principles for Gambling 2022-2025. Any person wishing to submit comments on the republishing of the statement and its content should write to or email licensing no later than the 27 October 2021 in order that such views can be considered by the council.

Our objectives

There are three key licensing objectives behind the legislation:

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime
  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
  • Protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
