Fly-tipped rubbish near Evergate Business Park

A 69-year-old Kennington man has paid a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice after CCTV captured the moment he dumped a mattress and bed on land near Evegate Business Park.

Ashford Borough Council’s Environmental Enforcement team received a report of an early morning fly tip at the end of a track near Evegate Business Park. The team was able to obtain CCTV stills of the vehicle with clear vehicle registration and times of the tip.

Further investigations into who was the registered keeper of the vehicle led to the man from Kennington being interviewed under caution by the council’s Environmental Enforcement team.

He confirmed he deposited the waste on Evegate's land without obtaining permission from the landowner. During the interview he stated that he had also done it before.

The man was issued with a £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice, which he has paid in full.

CCTV catches Ashford fly-tipper red handed

Ashford Borough Council takes the illegal dumping of waste seriously and will issue fines against offenders and car owners involved in fly-tipping. Householders have a duty of care to ensure that they dispose of their household waste correctly. If you have bulk rubbish this can be disposed of at the local recycling centre or by arranging bulk collection services provided by Biffa. If you are caught fly-tipping using a vehicle then the registered keeper is liable and fines will be served.

Many of the leads that end with offenders being caught come from residents alerting the team to fly-tipping incidents by using the Report It page on the council's website.
