Design And Planning

What is urban design?

Urban design is the process of shaping the physical setting for life in cities, towns and villages. It is the art of making places. It involves the design of buildings, groups of buildings, spaces and landscapes, and establishing the processes that make successful development possible.

Homeowner survey

We aspire to create high-quality homes of good design that people want to live in. Central to this approach to creating new places to live is working with existing communities to find out what works, or doesn’t work for them.

Therefore, we are asking 625 residents in who live in homes around the borough that are less than 20 years old, to tell us what they think of the street where they live. If you have received the pack then you can take our homeowner survey.

What is the value of urban design?

Good design can bring very specific economic benefits by opening up development investment and regeneration opportunities. Buildings, streets and spaces that are well designed can provide a nice environment by creating places that are walkable, accessible and safe with a vibrant mix of uses that can lead to stronger communities. Good design also can create more energy efficient and less polluting development.
