It's National Apprenticeship Week and here at Ashford Borough Council we strive to be the best borough council in the country and we know that investing in our staff is key to that.

We support a range of apprenticeship programmes and have had some fantastic apprentices over the years including graduate planners, IT technicians, housing and property management, electricians and more. In fact, one of Ashford’s apprentice electricians was awarded JTL National Apprentice of the Year 2020.

Our apprentices have the opportunity to gain job-specific skills whilst working alongside experienced staff. They are also supported in gaining nationally recognised qualifications. Many of our apprentices go on to secure permanent jobs and continue their careers with us.

Our employees are our most important asset so we go beyond the Government’s National Apprentice Wage and pay our apprentices the National Minimum/Living Wage for their age, plus 20 pence per hour.
