Ashford Borough Council is making strong progress on its new housing development at Mabledon Avenue, with construction continuing on programme and completion of the new homes on track for summer 2027.

The scheme will deliver 20 high-quality, council-owned homes for local people, supporting the council’s ongoing commitment to increasing the supply of social housing across the borough.

Good progress has been made across the three residential blocks in recent months. Ground source heat pump installations have been completed, providing a low-carbon heating system for the development. First-floor construction is now complete on Blocks A and C, with brickwork progressing on Block B, alongside the completion of key drainage works across the site.

The development is being delivered by local contractor WW Martin and currently supports around 25 operatives on site, all from the local area, helping to maximise economic benefits for Ashford’s communities.

Sustainability remains a key focus of the project. Alongside the ground source heat pump system, plans are progressing for photovoltaic (solar panel) installations, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and supporting lower energy costs for future residents.

The scheme is also delivering wider social value. A local apprentice is currently working on site, and the contractor has established links with EKC Ashford College, providing work experience placements and opportunities for site visits. Earlier this year, a bricklaying student gained valuable hands-on experience as part of their training.

Throughout construction, Ashford Borough Council and its partners have remained committed to working closely with neighbouring residents. Any concerns raised have been addressed quickly, with proactive steps taken to minimise disruption.

The project continues to demonstrate strong health and safety performance, with regular independent inspections and no significant delays reported.

Waste generated on site is being diverted from landfill through responsible management processes, supporting the environmental objectives of the development.

Cllr Noel Ovenden, Leader of Ashford Borough Council, said:

“We are pleased to see strong progress being made at Mabledon Avenue, with these new council-owned homes for local people moving a step closer to completion.

“Delivering social housing remains a key priority for the council, and this scheme demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable homes while also supporting local jobs, skills and the wider community.

“Once complete, the Mabledon Avenue development will provide modern, energy-efficient homes for local residents, forming an important part of the council’s wider programme to deliver new social housing across Ashford."
