Ashford Borough Councils Garden Waste Expansion project has been shortlisted at the APSE (Association of Public Sector Excellence) Awards for Best Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship Initiative.

Ashford Borough Council set up the Garden Waste expansion project as a pilot project under the umbrella of the council’s new commercialisation strategy. The ambition was to increase take up of Garden Waste services, to increase recycling rates and generate income to fully cover service costs, with a multi-team project approach.

Ashford Borough Council has been shortlisted alongside;

  • Nottingham City Council
  • South Staffordshire Council
  • Swansea Council
  • Waltham Forest Council
  • Wakefield Council

Cllr Bill Barrett, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Land Management said, “It is an honour to be nominated for such a prestigious award alongside such strong contenders.”

“Placing as finalists reflects the dedication, determination, drive and ambition of the officers at Ashford Borough Council and I would like to thank them for their hard work on this project.”

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony on Thursday 9 September.
