Ashford Borough Council is thrilled to announce that the £2.6m project to refurbish Tenterden Leisure Centre, which is operated by non-for-profit organisation Freedom Leisure, is now complete.

The project, funded jointly by both the council and Freedom Leisure, has provided the leisure centre with a brand-new interactive soft-play centre, new water-play features in the pool, a modernised café with additional seating, upgraded toilet and changing facilities and refurbished exercise class and indoor cycling studios.

The new additions will ensure that Tenterden Leisure Centre remains a hub for health, wellbeing, fitness and family activities for both residents and visitors alike and early impressions have been incredibly positive.

The refurbishments also back up ABC’s pledge in their Borough Plan to help people have more active, healthy and enriched lifestyles. You can read the Borough Plan on our website.

To celebrate the news, this weekend (2-4 October), Tenterden Leisure Centre will be hosting their Big Open Weekend, giving people the chance to see the new facilities, meet with the team on site and to see what the centre has to offer them.

Plus, just for the Big Open Weekend, visitors can make the most of a free Pilates class, free use of the gym and the choice of several other events, such as the Learn to Swim Discovery Day, Floats & Features, InflataFun and much more.

To book any of the classes in question, please visit the dedicated Big Open Weekend webpage on the Tenterden Leisure Centre website.

Speaking about the news, Cllr Guy Pullen, Cabinet Member for Parks and Recreation, was pleased to see people already make the most of the facilities and believes that the new refurbishments will have a big part to play in regards to attracting visitors to the Borough.

"I am delighted to see the new refurbishments completed at Tenterden Leisure Centre and it's fantastic to hear of the extremely positive feedback from visitors," Cllr Pullen said. "The award-winning leisure centres within our Borough really do play their part in encouraging people to visit and these new changes will only amplify that further."
