Children from Kennington Beavers attended a workshop with local artist Martin Brockman to explore art and nature around the Conningbrook Lakes development in Ashford.

Martin, who led the workshop on behalf of Outdoor Studios, said, “We had a lovely sunny Saturday morning workshop working in and around the lakes. Using foraged natural materials, we made and drew dragonflies, as they can be found by the lakeside here. We weaved dragonfly wings from woodland materials and made their bodies from sticks found nearby. Later we drew dragonflies using oak ink, clays, soils and plant colours from the local area."

14 Beavers attended the session. Joe Cooper, Kennington Beavers group leader said: "We had an absolutely brilliant morning with Martin. The time flew so quickly."

The workshop took place in June 2022 as part of a programme of public art commissioned by Chartway Group, Latimer and Ashford Borough Council to help create a distinctive place to live and to celebrate the area's natural landscape.

Further workshops will be held at Conningbrook Lakes this summer.
