Freedom Leisure and Ashford Borough Council are delighted to announce that the refurbishment of the leisure pool and learner pool at The Stour Centre is now complete and the popular attraction will welcome swimmers to ride the flumes and experience all the new and exciting children’s play features on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November.

The main 25m pool reopened in July and now with the announcement that the leisure pool and learner pool are due to reopen, it heralds another milestone in the £7.5m investment in Ashford’s Stour Centre by Ashford Borough Council.

Initially the leisure pool sessions will be on weekends and there will be three one-hour sessions each day with sessions being bookable online via the Stour Centre website. More time slots will be added to the programme in the New Year.

The newly refurbished Stour Centre, with its brand new facilities including an amazing gym, a fabulous multi-level soft-play and an exciting, interactive Clip to Climb, reopened to the public on 1 June. The reopening of the leisure pool and learner pool will be hugely welcomed by many of the centres previous customers as well as our new members that joined since the opening and will be a great benefit to all visitors to The Stour Centre at weekends.

Ivan Horsfall Turner Managing Director at Freedom Leisure said: “We are so pleased to be re-opening the leisure pool and learner pool. We know that these swimming facilities in Ashford have been missed by people wanting to spend precious leisure time at the weekend with the family.”

Cllr Matthew Forest, portfolio holder for Culture, Tourism and Leisure at Ashford Borough Council, said: “I’m so pleased to see the leisure pool facilities at the Stour Centre available for families and children to enjoy, and would like to thank everyone for their patience while the additional works took place.

“The Council and Freedom Leisure are investing heavily in improving the leisure facilities on offer, not just here but across the borough, to meet a growing demand and ensure Ashford remains active. Alongside the main pool, new-look gym, fitness suite and other new additions to the centre, such as the popular clip to climb and soft play area, this means the Stour Centre has one of the best leisure offers in the county.”

The pool will reopen with new water play features to make a visit to the leisure pool even more fun and interactive than ever before for our younger swimmers to complement the existing flumes and features including the lazy river and waterfalls.

The refurbishment of the pool has been an extensive programme of works over a period of many months including the complete replacement of all the wall tiles in the leisure pool and the relining of the learner pool as well as improvements to the lighting.
