ABC Lettings welcomes new manager and prepares for annual Landlord Forum

Ashford Borough Council’s ABC Lettings service has announced the appointment of Gareth Harmer as its new Manager, bringing with him extensive sector expertise at a pivotal time for the private rented market.

With over 28 years’ experience in residential lettings and property sales across West London and the Kent coast, Gareth offers a deep understanding of the private rented sector and its evolving challenges. A long‑standing Ashford resident of more than 20 years, he holds a joint honours degree in Music and Art from the University of Kent, pairing local insight with broad market knowledge.

Gareth said: “I am passionate about supporting both tenants and landlords to navigate the increasingly complex legislative landscape within the private rental sector. My focus is on promoting good‑quality housing, supporting sustainable tenancies, and playing an active role in addressing homelessness within the local community.”

His appointment comes as ABC Lettings continues to strengthen its support for the borough’s private landlords and tenants. The service currently manages more than 200 properties across Ashford, Folkestone and Hythe, offering fully managed and tenant‑find options designed to reduce risk, streamline management and help prevent homelessness. 

Landlord Forum returns next month

Private sector landlords are invited to attend Ashford’s highly regarded Landlord Forum, organised in partnership with the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA). Last year, over 70 landlords registered for the event, which provides vital updates during a period of rising regulatory pressures and market change. Many landlords continue to face increasing costs, including higher mortgage rates and shifts in investor confidence, contributing to a reduction in available private rented stock.
