Ashford Borough Council is delighted to announce a major refurbishment of Tenterden Leisure Centre, operated by not-for-profit leisure trust Freedom Leisure on behalf of the Council. The project, taking place from October 2025 to February 2026, represents a significant investment in modernising the facility and enhancing the experience for the local community.

The multi-million-pound initiative, jointly funded by the Council and Freedom Leisure, will ensure that Tenterden Leisure Centre continues to serve as a hub for health, wellbeing, fitness, and family activities for residents and visitors alike.

Key improvements will include:

  • A brand-new interactive soft-play centre and new water-play features in the popular leisure pool.
  • A modernised café with additional seating for visitors.
  • Upgraded toilet and changing facilities.
  • Refurbished exercise class and indoor cycling studios.

Councillor Steve Campkin, Deputy Leader of Ashford Borough Council, said:
"We are pleased to be investing in the future of Tenterden Leisure Centre alongside Freedom Leisure. This refurbishment is about more than just updating the facilities – it’s about creating high-quality, modern spaces where people of all ages can enjoy fitness, wellbeing, and family activities. The new soft-play and water features will make the centre a vibrant hub for the community and visitors alike, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this investment will bring for years to come."

Chris Ashley, Freedom Leisure Area Manager, added:
"These upgrades represent a significant investment in the centre and the community. Alongside the Council, we are committed to providing a welcoming, modern, and enjoyable environment for everyone who visits Tenterden Leisure Centre. We can’t wait to open our doors to the new and improved facilities."

The refurbishment is expected to be completed by February 2026, with a full reopening showcasing all upgraded facilities.
