Ashford Borough Council has secured a three-month Closure Order on a flat at 29 Longfield, Tenterden, following persistent complaints of serious anti-social behaviour.

The order prohibits anyone from entering the premises except Council staff and Police officers. It was served shortly after the hearing on 18 December 2025, with officers allowing associates of the tenant access to collect essential items. The property has since been secured.

The Council’s Housing team acted after numerous reports from neighbours about disorder and nuisance linked to the address. When officers attended to serve the Closure Order, they found extensive internal damage throughout the property, as well as evidence of drug use and other prohibited items.

Following the order, officers visited residents in the block to explain the outcome and offer reassurance. Specific advice was issued to nearby flats not to harbour the evicted tenant or permit further anti-social behaviour, with Police reinforcing this message on site. Today, a deployable camera has been installed at the block to deter and monitor any further issues.

An Ashford Borough Council spokesperson said:

‘This underlines our zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour. This property had become a focal point for persistent nuisance and distress for neighbours. Working closely with Kent Police and partners, we have used the legal tools available to restore peace for residents. If you are affected by the illegal activities of another resident, please report it — with your help we can take action.’

Kent Police Inspector Simon Johnson said:

‘Anti-social behaviour may be caused by a small number of people, but it can have a detrimental impact on the wider community. By working collaboratively and supporting colleagues in Ashford Borough Council, these issues can be tackled with the aim of improving the quality of life for law-abiding residents across the district. I would urge anyone who find themselves faced with anti-social behaviour to report it so appropriate action can be taken by police, council and partner agencies.’
