Cllr Noel Ovenden, Leader of Ashford Borough Council, and Tracey Kerly, Chief Executive of Ashford Borough Council, have issued the following statement in relation to the incident in Hamstreet on 28 December 2025.
"Firstly, Ashford Borough Council would like to express our sincere condolences to the family involved with this tragic incident.
"Yesterday afternoon, a serious house fire in Hamstreet required the evacuation of nearby residents.
"Ashford Borough Council staff joined community volunteers at a rest centre set up at a local village hall, to provide comfort and practical support to those affected.
"One household was offered temporary accommodation overnight, while others made arrangements with friends and family, and we continue to liaise with the housing provider and other partners on providing ongoing support to those who need it.
"We are deeply grateful to the Hamstreet community for their swift response and generosity, and to voluntary partners, including the British Red Cross, for their vital support during this difficult time."
