Free EV parking scheme
+ How long will the free parking EV scheme last at Vicarage Lane Car Park?
The scheme will commence in late Feb 2026 and will run for up to six months to allow the council to understand the effect this has on EV point utilisation. However, the scheme can be withdrawn at any time in the six-month period and we will notify residents well in advance should this be the case.
+ Will the free parking EV scheme extend to other council-owned car parks in the borough?
An extension of the scheme or the scheme being replicated at our other car parks will depend on EV point utilisation after we have reviewed the initial pilot scheme at Vicarage Lane Car Park.
+ Why has the council introduced this scheme at Vicarage Lane Car Park?
We are aiming to create space for standard vehicles by moving EVs from standard bays to EV bays. EV owners are still required to pay to charge their vehicle and unlike petrol or diesel vehicles, there are limited options as to where this can take place.
