Update on Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution in Kent - July 2025
Published: 31/07/2025
"Last week, Ashford Borough Council Chief Executive Tracey Kerly and I joined other Kent Leaders and Chief Executives at the first meeting with our Local Government Reorganisation strategy partner, KPMG.
"KPMG was appointed following a recent competitive procurement exercise due to their expertise in consultation and engagement, both politically with members and meaningfully with residents.
"Following this initial meeting, KPMG plans to hold a visioning event with the Kent Leaders and Chief Executives in September. They will then begin working on building the business case for the future structure of local government in Kent.
"Next month, our joint communications team from across the county will jointly launch public awareness campaign in Kent. This campaign aims to inform residents and other stakeholders about the upcoming changes and their significance.
"While there is a great deal of work which needs to be undertaken on LGR, I’m sure we can all agree that the main focus needs to be on ensuring our residents continue to get the high quality public services they deserve, however they are delivered, in the future."
Cllr Noel Ovenden, Leader of Ashford Borough Council
