Convo

If you are a British Sign Language (BSL) user, you can use a free online service called Convo. This service will put you in touch with a professional interpreter.

Convo is free to access via an app on your smartphone or tablet. You can also use a computer with a webcam, microphone and speakers.

Once you have registered with Convo you can connect with us through their community directory. The directory is available 9am-4pm Monday to Friday.

Using Convo

Follow the steps below to access Convo for the first time:

  1. Download the Convo app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. If you're on a computer, visit Convo in your web browser.
  2. Register for a Convo account – complete all the required fields and select Register, then check your inbox for a confirmation email. You can use your Facebook or Google account if you want.
  3. Select ‘Ashford Borough Council’ in the Community Directory, and connect to a BSL interpreter who will relay your call to us.
  4. The interpreter will appear on the screen, usually within 40 seconds. The connection is set to mute by default, so you’ll need to turn on the audio when the interpreter appears.

Contact Convo if you have any problems using the service.

Using Convo at International House

  1. Use the QR code displayed at our International House reception.
  2. When scanned, it connects the visitor to an interpreter instantly.
  3. Our Customer Services team will be able to position the device so both parties can see and hear clearly.
