Report an Accident

Accidents involving taxis or private hire vehicles

It is a legal requirement under s50(3) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 that the licence holder for any private hire or hackney carriage report any accident involving their vehicle as soon as possible, or at latest within 72 hours of any accident that causes damage materially affecting the safety, performance, passenger comfort, or appearance of the licensed vehicle. Failure report such accidents in line with this requirement is a criminal offence.

The following form may be used by licence holders to report such accidents, and upload photographs of the damage, so as to enable us to efficiently deal with any accidents in the interests of ensuring that the licensed vehicle remains both fit for use and also to minimise any delay in getting you back on the road as soon as possible.

In the event of damage affecting safety, performance, passenger comfort, or appearance there may be a need to suspend vehicle licences pending repair, and in more significant cases pending further compliance testing via the councils approved contractor.
