Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

What is ANPR?+

ANPR is a new technology which stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition. It means that registration plates can now be recognised by cameras as they enter and they leave car park.

Why is ANPR being used?+

ANPR is being used to improve the quality and convenience of parking not only in Ashford but in car parks across the UK.

What is different?+

In Elwick Place Car Park in Ashford, you can expect to see a new barrier, cameras and machines.

You can pay for parking at the ticket machines using cash, card or contactless payments.

In addition, you can also set up an account for ticketless parking, which allows you to pay in advance. The camera will recognise your number plate as you enter and leave the car park, using the balance you have pre-paid online. This means you never have to go to a payment machine again.

Blue Badge parking+

If you have a Blue Badge, you can get three hours of free parking in our new ANPR car park.

You will need to create an account, and then register your badge online to get the three free hours in our ANPR car park.

If you are using your badge when parked in a disabled bay, please make sure it's clearly visible on the dashboard of your vehicle.

You can register one vehicle against your badge.

You can change your registered vehicle as many times as you like (for example, if friends or family drive you at different times) but you can only have one registered at one time.

If you live in Kent, you can apply for a Blue Badge from Kent County Council.

Motorcycle parking+

Motorcycles may park without charge if they park in the designated area marked within the car park.

Automatic payments+

If you use this car park regularly, you can register to pay automatically when you exit.

The car park uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology so you'll only ever pay for what you use.

Your registered card will be charged automatically when you exit the car park, based on your length of stay and the tariff of that car park.

If you already have an account with us, you can also set up automatic payments
